Hello and welcome to the Year 5 class page! My name is Miss Hogg and I am very excited to be teaching Year 5 in my first year at Holy Family St Michael’s. Miss Webster and I hope to promote a happy class, who have a love for learning, and build friendships with each other and enjoy their time within school.
I strongly believe in having an open relationship between myself and the parents of the children I am teaching. The school does have systems in place to encourage the beneficial relationship which home-school cooperation can bring for a child. If there is anything concerns you wish to discuss with me or how best you can support your child at home, you can talk to me after school. If you are unable to do this, you can also contact me through the Class Dojo system or by calling the school.
Other Important Information
Reading – I am aware that some children read independently by the time they reach Year 5. However, reading both fiction and non-fiction with your child will encourage them to reflect and inquire. Reading feeds straight into the children’s writing, allowing them to flourish in their creativity. If possible, please set aside as much time as you can for your child
Timestables – Children knowing their times tables will improve their maths knowledge and build their confidence within mathematics. Knowing and understanding times tables is paramount for their education. Multiplication is transferable within a multitude of maths topics; this is the reason it needs to be a priority.
Homework – Homework is given out in homework books every Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. Please encourage and help your child complete their homework and leave a comment and/or signature. Please note – The Year 5 spellings sent home for the children to learn will be words that children are required and expected to know and be able to spell correctly in Year 5.
P.E - Children should have an appropriate P.E. kit in school on a Thursday. It is recommended that the children bring their P.E. kits on a Monday and take it home on a Friday to avoid any disappointment with timetable changes.
Swimming – will take place on a Friday afternoon.
